Winter Break Reminders – School Attendance is Important
The end of the year is quickly approaching and with that comes holidays, family gatherings and outings. The activity around this time of year can also take its toll on everyone’s health. Please be sure to get the needed rest, eat nutritious meals, and dress appropriately for the weather. It is getting cold; coats, jackets, sweatshirts are a must. Gloves, caps (worn outside) and scarves can also help hold off illnesses. Remind your children to wash their hands frequently. School is out for a week at Thanksgiving and two weeks for the Winter Break. Please try to have your students attend school every school day during this time. The curriculum doesn’t stop or slow down while school is in session. Please plan your family trips using the allotted time when school is NOT in session.
If you have no alternative and must take your student out of school, your trip might qualify for an Independent Study Contract. The absence must be a minimum of 5 school days. Please send a note or call Mrs. Tagupa in the attendance office with the details of the absence. (dates and reason for the absence) a minimum of 7-10 daysmtagupa@srvusd.net. before the trip begins. She will prepare a contract for your student. Mrs. Tagupa can be reached on 479-1500 or
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping your students in the learning environment.
Lost and Found
We have quite a collection of sweaters, coats, sweatshirts, lunchboxes, and so much more. The articles will be placed on display in the multi-purpose room during lunch periods, for two weeks following the Thanksgiving Break. After December 11th, any unclaimed items will be donated. Please encourage your student to check out the display and retrieve any of their items.
District Seeks Input for Solar Panel Shade Structures at Eight Potential School Site Parking Lots
REQUEST FOR PUBLIC INPUT FOR SOLAR PANEL SHADE STRUCTURES AT VARIOUS SCHOOL SITE PARKING LOTS IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, DANVILLE, AND SAN RAMON
PUBLIC INPUT FROM: November 13, 2009 through December 8, 2009
WHAT IS BEING PLANNED? - The San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) is seeking public input on the planning of a possible project to add solar panel shade structures in the parking lots at some or all of the following schools:
California High School Dougherty Valley High School Monte Vista High School
San Ramon Valley HS Diablo Vista Middle School Gale Ranch Middle School
Iron Horse Middle School Quail Run Elementary.
BACKGROUND - The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 is providing $22 billion nationwide for the Qualified School Construction Bond (QSCB) program. The District applied for and received a $25-million allocation of QSCBs to fund capital improvement projects at our school sites. With this allocation, the District must meet certain timelines and requirements for issuing debt, project identification and expenditure of funds. The District must issue debt on or before December 31, 2009 as required by California Department of Education (CDE). The District must reasonably expect at the time of issuance to spend 100% of the proceeds within 3 years, and to enter into a binding commitment to spend at least 10% of the proceeds within 6 months. Should the District fail to spend 100% of the proceeds within 3 years on qualified projects, it must use the balance to redeem bonds.
If the Board of Education approves the sale of QSCBs at its December 15th meeting, SRVUSD will use the funds for adding fixed-tilt shade structures and/or tracking-shade structures with solar panels at some or all the school parking lots listed above. The parking lot structures would provide shade for cars and support the solar panel arrays. The project would also include new security systems for the parking lots and appropriate lighting. The District has received examples of installations and renderings of the solar panel shade structures from four possible vendors. These renderings and photographs can be found on line at: www.srvusd.net <http://www.srvusd.net/?rn=3524956> (click on Facilities – Facilities Development – Solar Public Q&A).
Due to the proposed size of the solar panel shade structures over existing parking spaces, SRVUSD anticipates that this project would be categorically exempt under the California Environmental Quality Act.
The District would like to hear from the public regarding the solar panel structures.
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE? - Your participation is encouraged. Your input concerning the planning of this project may be submitted in writing to Ms. Margaret Brown, Facilities Development, 2430 Camino Ramon Suite 240, San Ramon, CA 94583 or via email to: mebrown@srvusd.net. The Board of Education will also be discussing this project at its November 19th workshop at 1:00 pm and again at its December 15th meeting at 7:00 p.m., 699 Old Orchard, Danville, CA 94506. Please submit your written input by December 8, 2009.
WHERE DO I GET MORE INFORMATION? – Information about the project can be found at the District’s web site: www.srvusd.net. Hard copies of the planning documents can also be reviewed at the following location:

Leadership News
Love For Lincoln (Drive ends tomorrow)
Lincoln Elementary School is our Sister School, located in Richmond Ca
We are doing a drive to help support their school and their education
We recognize that they are in need of many things for their physical education classes as well as lunchtime/recess activities
We are asking for our school to work together and help donate “gently used soccer balls, basketballs, four-square and footballs, as well hula hoops.
Another way to donate is to bring in dimes, nickels, quarters, and dollar bills to help raise money in the hope to buy some playground equipment. Money will be collected in Advisory class in which you place it in your “Love for Lincoln” box.
The playground equipment will be collected before school in the student store. When you bring in your “gently” used equipment, tell the leadership kids which Advisory class you are in, so points will go to the right class.
Any other questions can be directed towards Ms. Murphy (kmurphy@srvusd.net)
The leadership class recognizes that this is a difficult time for all our families, but from November 9th –November 20th, we are going to strive to think of our Sister School and show them Love by giving and donated our “gently” used playground equipment and/or donate money to help fund their equipment.
Thank you very much.
