Invitation from the Superintendent’s Office
We need your input on "The Next Level" for our schools!
Our community has grown accustomed to a high level of academic performance in our schools. The upcoming community forums provide an opportunity to think creatively about ways to make this outstanding school district even better, and to revisit the values, mission and priorities of our school district. We need your input at these forums around issues such as:
- How to best prepare students for success in a changing competitive, global environment, and what this means for teaching and learning.
- Technology and expansion of world language education.
- A possible restructuring of the senior year experience, allowing these students more time off campus in order to have a job, engage in community service or political advocacy, and/or take college classes.
- How to best meet all of our facilities needs in terms of growth, modernization of older facilities and energy conservation.
The forums will be scheduled at each high school. Parents, staff, students and other community members may attend any forum that works best with their schedule. The community forums will be at 6:30 p.m. The dates and locations of the forums are:
- Monday, November 9, Dougherty Valley High School
- Thursday, November 12, Monte Vista High School
- Monday November 16, California High School
For more information, contact the Superintendent's office at 925-552-2933 or ghaddad@srvusd.net. We hope to see you there!
Leadership News
Love For Lincoln (Drive from November 9th – November 20th)
Lincoln Elementary School is our Sister School, located in Richmond Ca
We are doing a drive to help support their school and their education
We recognize that they are in need of many things for their physical education classes as well as lunchtime/recess activities
We are asking for our school to work together and help donate “gently used soccer balls, basketballs, four-square and footballs, as well hula hoops.
Another way to donate is to bring in dimes, nickels, quarters, and dollar bills to help raise money in the hope to buy some playground equipment. Money will be collected in Advisory class in which you place it in your “Love for Lincoln” box.
The playground equipment will be collected before school in the student store. When you bring in your “gently” used equipment, tell the leadership kids which Advisory class you are in, so points will go to the right class.
Any other questions can be directed towards Ms. Murphy ( kmurphy@srvusd.net)
The leadership class recognizes that this is a difficult time for all our families, but from November 9th –November 20 th, we are going to strive to think of our Sister School and show them Love by giving and donated our “gently” used playground equipment and/or donate money to help fund their equipment.
Thank you very much.
8th Grade Information
8th Grade Yearbook Ads - Deadline is tomorrow, November 6th.
Attention 8th grade parents!!!!
Due to the overwhelming response we have been able to negotiate the addition of pages to our yearbook to accommodate the yearbook dedications. The addition of the pages also gave us a reprieve on the deadline to submit to our publisher. So you still have time to honor your 8th grader with a dedication in the first yearbook to include a promoting class.
Each ad will be 1/8 of a page and includes a photo of your child with a special message by you. This will be a special memory for your student as they are part of the very first promoting class from Gale Ranch Middle School! The cost is $40 cash or check (payable to Gale Ranch Middle School Yearbook) and can be dropped off to the box in the main office. The photo and message can be submitted online at www.hjeshare.com using the school’s code 2009786. The deadline to submit has been extended to Friday, November 6th. Make a special memory for your 8 th grade student by creating a dedication for them in the yearbook! If you have any questions, please email Amy Hill at ahill@srvusd.net
Health Challenge Exam
What is the Health Challenge Test? The Health Challenge Exam is a test which is available to 8th grade students only. The exam consists of 106 questions. The exam questions come directly from the New Glencoe Health textbook. Those students who pass the Exam will automatically have their passing grade entered on their official high school transcript. The students can then choose another elective in lieu of “Health”, a mandatory class for freshmen. This exam is offered only once. The 8th grade students, who are interested in taking the Health Challenge Exam, can pick up the Petition in the Counseling office from Mrs. Cliff - October 15th through Dec 4th. Exam will be Wednesday, December 9, 3:00 PM., at Dougherty Valley High School.
Promotion Activities
Your student should have brought home a colorful flyer outlining the end of year promotion activities. It includes an RSVP for the Promotion Party and end of year field trip, plus the pre-payment so we can appropriately plan the budgets for the events. The form is also posted to our website. Click here to download the form. Additional information will be added to the 8th Grade Promotion link as it becomes available and relevant.

GRMS ED Fund News and Happenings
Your Ed Fund is working hard to support the students at Gale Ranch Middle School. Here’s some easy and fun ways for you to participate and help!
Gale Ranch Dine Out – Thank you so much for participating in our first Dine Out event. The manager at Chili's was very happy to see GR supporters and hungry families. It turned out to be very festive starting with complementary chip n salsa, families greeting each other and kids circling the restaurant over and over hoping to find their buddies. It was a nice gesture that the manager surprised all the kids with a coupon for a free kid’s meal.
The receipts are being tallied and the raffle tickets will be delivered to the school shortly. Results of both will be announced when available. If you missed this great evening, others are in the planning stages. Watch for information for the next Dine Out Event.
Escrip – This is the simplest thing to do. We would love to see 100% participation in this program. It is quick and painless and as a result each time you shop you know you are supporting our school. The link is www.escrip.com and I promise it only takes a few minutes but yields thousands of dollars for us. You can link to your Safeway Card as well as several different credit cards. Take your pick .. all will help out our school.
Matching Funds – Such an easy way to double your contribution! Many employers have a matching funds program. If yours does, the school needs your help to expedite this very much needed support. Generally, companies have a matching gift form that you will need to fill out in order to process. Please check with your human resource department.
