    Gale Ranch News

The first week of school is almost complete and the students, staff and parents are getting along well. Classrooms have been found, new friendships have begun and old ones renewed. Thanks to everyone who has made this first week successful.

Our normal class bell schedule is 8:15am to 2:45pm with an adjusted Wednesday beginning at 9:06am still ending at 2:45pm. Our library is open each morning at 8:00am and closes at 3:30pm except on Fridays when it closes at 2:45pm. Please help your students to get a good night’s rest and arrive at school on time and ready to learn.

    Security on Campus

A reminder that Gale Ranch is a closed, secure campus.  All visitors (including volunteers)  must check in at the front office and receive a visitor's badge/pass prior to entering the campus proper.  Thank you for helping us keep our campus safe for all.
    School Loop
Schoolloop, the automated assignment, grading and communication system is up and running. Returning students and parents can access their accounts using the same information as last year. New students will be registering during science classes. Parents, please register yourselves by going to www.grms.schoolloop.com and following the directions to register as a parent.   You will need your student’s id number to complete the registration. For security reasons we cannot give out this number on the telephone or via email. Your student should have the number memorized, so please ask. If your student does not know the number, either he/she or you may come into the office to obtain it.
    Afterschool Activities and Sports
Afterschool activities will be beginning shortly. The district has instituted a new policy requiring strict adherence to forms completion. Notice that an activity is to begin will be given to students via an announcement at lunch and will also be printed in this newsletter prior to the start. The forms and sports schedules are located on our website and can be downloaded and completed as appropriate. Our website is www.grms.srvusd.net
    GRMS Website
Our website contains loads of information that we hope will be informative and relevant to you. Please check it often. It contains, among other things, upcoming event, school, district and sports calendars, PTSA and Ed Fund information, links to pertinent sites and so much more.  www.grms.srvusd.net
    Office and Library Volunteers
We have an overwhelming response to volunteer in the office and library. We greatly value our volunteers and appreciate their help. We have limited slots to fill, so as we make our schedules, we will contact the lucky library and office volunteers. Those that are not on the regular schedule, we will be most happy to put on a substitute list.
    School Lunches & Mealtime
Our food services staff will once again be planning and preparing nutritious and appetizing lunches.  Once the menus have been planned, you will be able to access the menu on the Gale Ranch website,  The price for the complete lunch is $4.00 this year and all meals include an entre, choice of milk, fresh and canned fruits and vegetables from the salad bar.

This year we are striving to have a cashless operation in the cafeteria. This is possible with the Mealtime lunch system. Money is simply deposited into your student’s account and they can then purchase lunch using their student id. You can deposit via the website or simply bring a check made out to SRVUSD into the office and it will be deposited into your student’s account.

Fall Picture Day - September 2nd
All students will have their pictures taken during their scheduled PE Class.  These pictures will produce the student ID card.  If you would like to purchase a picture package, be sure to complete an order form, with payment and send it to school with your student.  The student will present the order form and payment to the photographer at the time the picture is taken.  Additional picture packets are available in the front office.

    Washington DC Trip - 7th & 8th Grade Students
    Washington D.C. Trip Informational Meeting
    Thursday, September 3, 2009
6:00 p.m.  (Before Back to School Night)

The trip will be April 2-7, 2010
It is for 7th and 8th graders ONLY.
The meeting will go over the itinerary, cost, and payment deadlines.

Please contact Pam George at pgeorge@srvusd.net for more info.
Note: This is an independent trip and is not sponsored or facilitated by the San Ramon Valley School District.
    Gale Ranch Education Fund
On behalf of Gale Ranch Middle School Education Fund, I would like to personally thank you for your generous donations during registration.  Your contributions have made it possible for us to raise approximately $82,000. All the money raised will be used to directly reduce class sizes by including additional sections in the curriculum.  You contributions will directly enhance the quality of education for your children.
For the 2009-2010 academic school year, your contributions have added six (6) additional sections to the Master Schedule.  This has only been possible because of thoughtful contributions from parents like you.  Please feel proud of yourselves by stepping up to help out during the state funding crisis and the harsh economic climate we are all currently experiencing.  You have made a difference.
During Monday’s registration, there was a glitch in our credit card machine upload resulting in the credit cards not being charged. This occurred only for Monday’s donation by credit card.  Board members have called those parents who’s credit cards were affected and have rerun most of the cards.  If the Board members were unable to reach you, please drop off a check at the school office, or bring your credit card to “Back to School Night” September 3rd so we can rerun your cards.  We’ll have a booth in a prominent location to collect your donation.
    Thank you,
    Education Fund Board Members

As a runner, walker or a volunteer you help GRMS get credits that will be used to determine an incentive payout for the PTSA.  All Primo's Run funds are donated back to our schools in the form of teacher grants.
